Man steals 200 bicycle seats: “I wanted to smell them.”
We love documenting the intriguing fetishes that exist out there — and be sure, we don’t do out of any sense of judging! Quite the opposite, we are kind of celebrating difference.
Anyway, another example has just come to light.
A man was arrested in Kanagawa prefecture over the weekend for stealing. Nothing new in that, except that he stole bicycle seats. A lot of them. 200 of them.
Police first came to see Joji Kondo to investigate the theft of three seats from an apartment block at around 4:45 AM on August 22nd. In Kondo’s lair of pungent desire, they found 200 bicycle seats!
An Aladdin’s cave of pungent!
The mystery was solved. Police had been aware that this area of Yokohama had been seeing a lot of bicycle seats disappearing. No doubt they expected some sort of commercial reason for the crime. Selling the seats to a scrap merchant or bicycle manufacturer?
No, according to police: “He wanted to smell the aroma left by women on the seats.”
Apparently Kondo (35) had no job at the time of his arrest — which probably also explains how he had time to roam Naka ward in Yokohama, hunting for the fragrant bike seats.
He had been doing it since around January, prowling only for leather seats that he was sure were used by women (e.g. because they were bikes with a child’s seat attached).
