What the Japanese think of Japanese porn
YouTuber Kei recently posted a video that is generating quite a lot of discussion and views.
Well, given its provocative and click-baity title, it’s not surprising: What the Japanese Think of Japanese Porn.
As Kei says, “Japan is famous for many things: its rich culture, Hello Kitty, and porn.” Yeah, put that on the 2020 Olympic Games posters.
He then proceeds to ask several young Japanese men and women for their views about Japanese AV, or porn.
Well, if one gentleman is to believed, men watch AV because of “certain needs” and “stress relief”. That’s quite the euphemism. “Watching porn is definitely necessary,” as another man insists.
The girls have some interesting responses to Kei’s questions, too. Japanese porn can’t be so popular abroad “because porn from overseas is better.” One anecdote is revealing: a “friend” of one of the girls (incidentally, by far the most attractive of the interviewees) showed an “Asian” (i.e. non-Japanese Asian) some AV and they were disgusted by it. Japanese AV truly is in a class of its own, then, even within Asia.
There is also an discussion on how AV stars are treated by society at large, such as how they will be referred to as “sexy celebrities” on television rather than calling them what they are.

Watching the video also reminded us of this funny one from last year: Korean girls watch American Porn. Of course, porn is technically illegal in South Korea. That, combined with the differences in Asian and Korean ways of having sex and depicting sex on screen, adds up to some pretty amusing reactions.
