This amazing abandoned love hotel in Hokkaido had farming and harvest theme

We spotted these photos on Twitter of a derelict former love hotel in the city of Asahikawa in Hokkaido, northern Japan.

The hotel Nokyo (or Noukyou, のうきょう), whose name literally means “agricultural cooperative,” had a brilliantly original farming theme.

When all its rooms were full, it would apparently display “Great Harvest” but “Crop Failure” when there were still rooms available. Of course, if you weren’t planning on impregnating your partner during your visit, you might be put off by these names.

There were also vegetables in the refrigerators in each room.

Nokyo opened in the 1970s and was in business until around 2004. The building is now abandoned (joining the long list of haikyo in rural Japan) but should still be there if you try to find it.

Although it is easy to find clusters of love hotels in major city centers like Shibuya or Kabukicho in Tokyo, the countryside is actually the place to go for the really legendary and outrageous designs.

We previously reported on some one incredible example from Niigata with a whole host of differently themed rooms.
