Ageless, athletic Yoko Kumada releases 77th DVD
Most careers in entertainment are all too short and many stutter and fade before they even really get going. That is true perhaps especially of gravure, an industry obsessed with the next idol, the latest body, the newest boobs.
But some women are an exception, like Yoko Kumada, whose gravure career has continued even as she has got older, had a family, and suffered a scandal (domestic violence) — or perhaps, it’s precisely because of this. Kumada is a lady with experience and who knows how to handle herself, a very attractive quality for a woman.
The 42-year-old divorcee and mother-of-three is just about to release her 77th DVD — a remarkable achievement.
The 120-minute Aphrodite comes out April 30 and was shot in Okinawa (the go-to choice for gravure whenever producers want an exotic yet easy-to-reach location).
It revels in Yoko’s athletic body that seems ageless (and impervious to the strain of three pregnancies).
Kumada, who made her debut in the industry was back in 2001, also released a print photo book last year.
The company behind her latest DVD was interviewed by Abema News about her enduring appeal. “In the past, Yoko Kumada had a slightly plumper image, but now she is doing pole dancing and has rock-hard abs. I think people who have been watching her change over time are buying her DVDs. I think even people who have been watching her for a long time never get bored,” a representative said.
On the same show, Kumada said: “In my 24 years as a gravure model, I’ve not changed the amount of flesh I show off. After releasing 77 works, I was told, ‘We want to increase the sales from the previous work, so please do something more extreme,’ but I have a line I can’t cross.”
Though Yoko turns 43 in next month, we can expect more from her in the future because of her dedication to her craft. “I am studying how to look sexy.”
