Adultery in the Japanese office
A recent survey of 200 women aged between 20 and 39 who are having affairs yielded some interesting results.
76 women said they started their affair following work drinks or eating out with their colleagues, while only 44 revealed it was the more conventional course of becoming closer by working together. 16 said it was from consulting about their job — i.e. asking the man what they should do about a problem, like a father figure.
Over half of the respondents said their partner worked on the same floor as them or was even closer in the office, thus probably leading to some awkward team meetings no doubt.
In true Japanese style this “office ladies” are very capable of pigeon-holing “romance” and “marriage”. Over half answered that, even given the chance, they would NOT want to marry their partner!
Do they feel guilty or stressed by having an affair with a married colleague?
No: “Adultery is a culture,” one of them answered!
