After cancer battle, AV idol Yuma Asami starts new career as singer
You might think you’ve seen all that Yuma Asami has to offer. Having viewed her ample talents on graphic display in her vast catalog of AV titles, what more could she have to show us?
Quite a lot, actually.
The 27-year-old is now trying her hand at being a singer.
“Re-Start: To Tomorrow” goes on release on May 20th.
Yuma Asami has already been a Gravure model and dabbled in music as a member of the Ebisu Muscats, which broke up in 2013. This was a tough year for Yuma, since she started her now famous battle with ovarian cancer. Today her treatment is over and she is getting back to work with an autobiography in 2014 and a new singing career.
Her video in October 2013 announcing the end of her cancer treatment has clocked up 1.6 million views, indicating the level of fandom Yuma attracts.
She also sang and played guitar at a cancer music festival in June 2014.
Yuma Asami was born in 1987. Her parents apparently opened the first ever “Philippine pub” in Japan. She made her porn debut in 2005, unusually with releases on two labels simultaneously.
Is a return to the AV industry also on the cards? We very much hope so…
Japanese porn stars are an inventive species, constantly changing careers or trying new avenues.
Some like Elly Akira (Yuuka Osawa) moonlight also as photographers, artists and writers.
Others, like Nayuka Mine, become manga-ka.
We’re still hopeful of seeing a porn star who goes on to become a politician. Maybe one day.
