Binding Force: Japan’s First Facial Restraint Photo Book
Today, we are sharing some amazing images from Binding Force: Japan’s First Facial Restraint Photo Book.
This is a 1990 photo book by Masatoshi Osanai that explores restraint fetish with lots of fantastically kinky portraits of women wearing BDSM gear like gimp hoods, ball gags, and even gas masks. Some of the more extreme images feature nose and mouth hooks.
All the photos are black and white and mostly just of the models’ faces, but some are full-body shots (nude but with the bush airbrushed out, as is typical except for “hair nude” full-frontal nude books).
In the words of Osanai: “leather and rubber rob humans of their sight, muffle their hearing, and strip them of language.”
This rare and intriguing piece of Japanese sex history was recently scanned and shared by fintan (pinakotheca), who often publishes such finds on his X and Instagram accounts, and kindly agreed for us to re-share his scans here. Though quite the connoisseur of unusual photo books (especially Japanese ones), even fintan said Binding Force is “one of the weirdest books I’ve recently found.”
Binding Force was released by the now-defunct Million Publishing. Today, you can only find it from secondhand sellers and generally for quite a high price. Osanai’s other work includes a 1989 photo book of porn star Kimiko Matsuzaka and several entries in the Photo Sniper series of nude photo books.
