A visit to Ganguro Cafe in Shibuya, the gyaru girls cafe-bar
People are saying that gyaru are a dying breed. The fashion subculture is disappearing, with the magazines closing and the brands changing. Certainly we don’t see as much gyaru porn as we used to, which is a shame. Rumika, where are you?!
Kai-You recently paid a visit to the Ganguro Cafe, which is a space dedicated to the “black gals” with super tans. Of course, it’s in Shibuya, the gyaru and kuro-gyaru mecca.
This cafe-bar is bucking the trend. It was opened by new ganguro gal unit Black Diamond in January this year and is determined to promote gyaru culture, in particular the ganguro form of gyaru culture.
Needless to say, all the ladies have tanned skin, dyed hair, long eyelashes and extravagant fake nails.
The bar has been featured on Japanese TV so it is getting popular. Most of the time they say it is full, though even then the place is intimate. The girls will serve you drinks and also cook for you.
The specialize in “Ganguro balls” — “black” takoyaki octopus dough balls.
They get a lot of foreign visitors too since TripAdvisor ranks the cafe high (their SEO is good it seems and their website is tagged “new tourist spot in Shibuya”). One of the team — we think you can tell from the pictures which one — is American so can speak English.
You can also get a performance from the ladies in the signature para para dance.
The Kai-You guy has a fetish about being kicked on the butt by hot girls. He manages to persuade the ganguro to indulge him. If you listen carefully you can also hear someone explaining in English to a presumably overseas visitor off camera that he is a “Japanese hentai”. Omotenashi indeed.
Black Diamond is growing and growing, so perhaps there will be more Ganguro Cafes opening up soon.
