Hitler’s Sex Doll and the Japanese Army “pseudo-female body”

It has become well-known that Hitler commissioned a Danish science boffin to develop a sex doll (or “dame de voyage”) during World War Two as a cleaner, healthier substitute to the comfort women (i.e. prostitutes) that army soldiers usually employ. A prototype was even made of the doll but was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden, consigning Germany’s role in sex doll history to ash.

Japan has happily taken over the reigns. But actually, even earlier, the Imperial Army in Japan had been developing its own similar sex doll technology to service all the lonely soldiers. Such “bag”-like devices with female decoration and holes for masturbation were in use in Europe since at least the end of the nineteenth century, as England, for example, had a law banning such “immoral” objects from being brought into the country.

The “pseudo-woman body” (擬似女体) was a means to maintain hygiene and fight the spread of venereal disease in the “pure” Imperial army, and especially guard against miscegenation as the troops began to create Japan’s empire in mainland Asia. STDs were a serious concern. For example, there were 20,000 soldiers in Siberian units with syphilis during the Twenties.

At the army medical college they began developing a sex doll for the soldiers. Amusingly, they developed three types, each one for a different degree of rank in the army. After all, the officers can’t be expected to fuck the same sex doll as the squaddies, can they?! The doll was likely a simple affair and not very realistic, though apparently some were electrically heated to create the sensation of a warm female body.

However, the extent to which these were used by the Japanese Imperial Army is unknown but likely not very widespread. Japan was still in its early days on the journey towards the silicone love doll heaven it enjoys today.

During the early twentieth century in Japan there was also a “bronze doll” (銅人形), based on a Chinese kind of sex doll and already popular in Japan’s colonies for helping men out with their troubles.
