Instant trip from dating app to love hotel finds man accused of sexual assault

Be careful when something seems too good to be true. Especially when it’s with someone you don’t know.

Dating apps have made it a lot easier to meet people and arrange hook-ups, but you’re still interacting with a total stranger when all’s said and done.

According to a media report by Shizuoka TV last week, a man has been arrested for sexual assault on a woman he met through an app.

The 36-year-old man from Hamamatsu admits having sex with the woman but says he believed there was consent. The women says there wasn’t consent.

The incident took place in late June at a love hotel in Yaizu, Shizuoka.

The woman, whose age and occupation have not been disclosed, then went to local police, claiming the man sexually assaulted her.

The couple had met on the day of the incident for the very first time, having previously exchanged messages on a dating app.

Police have not explained the reason for the apparent contradiction between the woman agreeing to go to the love hotel and the sex being nonconsensual, though it is thought that the woman found herself in a situation in which she couldn’t say no to the man.

The man, who works as a painter in the construction industry, has told police that he thought the woman had consented.

In this case, who is in the right? Who should we believe more? With two people who essentially do not know each other, could the matter of sexual consent be lost due to miscommunication?

The media report by Shizuoka TV doesn’t mention if the pair had been drinking, but this might also have impeded judgment about consent for both parties.
