Japan creates Condom Cookbook: Contraceptives become cooking utensils to promote safe sex
Japanese guys, like their counterparts in porn, rarely use condoms — which is a nightmare for condom makers and for health services, since it also means STDs are rampant.
Condom makers call on unusual tactics to promote their innovative contraceptives, and this also extends to those trying to promote safe sex.
There is a considerable irony that Japan’s condom industry is large — producing up to 30% of the world’s rubbers — but local usage is possibly ranked in the bottom three in the world.
To improve this state of affairs, Kyosuke Kagami and Opanpon came up with a very novel solution. They made a condom cookbook.
Sex and food are Japan’s two obsessions, in our opinion, though the former is not always so obvious to the casual observer.
The “I want to cook condom food for you” book is a genuine series of recipes using condoms as cooking tools (not ingredients, this isn’t a condom-eating fetish book!). The idea is to “normalize” condoms by including them in dishes and so on. At least, we guess this is the logic.
There are 11 recipes here, including sushi, curry and ice cream. So, do you feel hungry?
