Japan’s entry to Miss International 2014 draws ire of Chinese netizens
Chinese netizens are apparently up in arms about Japan. Plus ça change.
Only this time it’s not a territorial incursion or some ojisan politico putting his foot in it.
No, the Chinese are angry about a woman. She’s not hot enough.
Iira Hongo is Japan’s official entry in the Miss International 2014 competition, a beauty pageant with over 70 entries from around the world, showcasing pretty girls representing their countries’ virtues.
While Ms. Hongo may well have a very “Japanese” countenance, it isn’t anything prettier than we can see in any shop or cafe in Tokyo.
There have been some unfortunate comparisons with a pug dog.
Well, we are sure the 22-year-old college student has a bright future ahead of her in modeling, regardless of the comments of some people online.
The competition, held in a glitzy hotel in Tokyo, was won by Valerie Hernandez of Puerto Rico.
Better luck next time, Lira!
