Japanese police charge man with uploading porn
Following earlier police attention over uploading live porn, the web porn portal FC2 has been targeted again by the authorities.
Police have charged a 42-year-old male company employee living in Yamanashi Prefecture. His crime? Uploading adult videos by S1 and Moodyz to FC2.
This is the first such case in Japan of someone being charged (without arrest) for breaching copyright laws for adult materials in this way. In the past, people were first arrested on other charges, such as “assisting public indecency” or “displaying electronic recording media”.
The man used multiple accounts to upload videos to FC2 over a 11-month period in 2014. He admits the charges.
His uploads have been seen 27,510 times. Since FC2 charges ¥300 to access content, there could be a civil suit to recover the ¥8 million they made.
The charges are another example of how the police and the AV industry is trying to tackle illegal distribution of their content.
From July 2012 to May 2015, FC2 has featured 8,216 “new releases” alone, depriving the porn industry of those sales.
Police are investigating another 130 people around Japan who also made illegal uploads to FC2.
