Japanese porn star Hotaru Akane supports China over Senkaku Islands

One of the biggest international rows right now is the Senkaku Islands dispute between Japan and China. The Chinese have been rioting and protesting Japan’s claims to the rocks in their usual unrestrained way, while over her the occasional person has spoke out, notably right-wing Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara, who at one point bizarrely tried to use public money to purchase the islands.

Now Hotaru Akane, a former JAV porn star who retired in 2008 for mainstream celebrity-dom, has weighed in. Tweeting in Chinese she has said that “looking at it historically, they are Chinese” and that the Japanese government bought them with “money from the tax that we [normal people] earned”.

Like Sora Aoi, Hotaru Akane (29) has many fans in China and it has been suggested that her support for the Chinese side is purely cynical, aimed at boosting her sales. The response from fans has so far been very immediate and grateful. “I’m gonna buy your DVD!” replied one.

Her agency has tried to backtrack, saying that she cannot tweet with subtlety in Chinese and that her Chinese partner translated and wrote the comment.
