The jobs Japanese men want their future wives to do

A survey recently announced results from research asking Japanese men to choose the professions they wanted their future wife to do.

In other words, these are the jobs that Japanese men apparently think make a woman more attractive as a possible wife.

Minna no Ranking’s online poll was hardly extensive, collecting online responses from just 765 men, who could assign points to a list of occupations.

There are some surprises and conventional results, which you can also find summarized in English in more detail on SoraNews24.

In descending order, the top five were: chef, nutritionist/dietician, pharmacist, nursery/preschool teacher, and nurse.

We get chef, because guys are (rightly or wrongly) expecting a woman to cook for them, though someone who does cooking all day at work is less likely to want to prepare elaborate meals at home too.

The next two might be a little surprising, but seem to stem from a desire for a woman to look after her and her spouse’s health in terms of diet and medicine. Apparently, respondents also believe that a pharmacist is a high-paying job but without the stress of being a doctor.

Nursery/preschool teacher is perhaps because guys want their wives to be good mothers. Good Wife, Wise Mother and all that.

And when they gave nurse such a high ranking, perhaps the guys had these images in mind?

The choice of nurse as the top desired profession for a wife is not motivated by porn scenarios, it seems, but also a belief that it’s a well-paying job (is it?!) and that the training means your wife will be able to take care of you. After all, marriage is in sickness and in health.

The frequent use of nurse setups in adult video might have fueled this fantasy, as have the very real cases of Riko Suzuhara, a caregiver turned gravure idol, and Hasumin Yoshikawa, a Self-Defense Forces nurse who switched to porn and politics.
