The Tokyo Metropolitan Police's chikan (molesting) app Digi Police (Digital Police) has won plaudits for recently leading to the arrest of a man in his fifties, who was allegedly groping the body of a young girl on a crowded train.
The incident happened on the morning of April 15 on a train running between Saitama and Tokyo. A girl in her teens used the app to notify that she was being groped.
Chikan is a notoriously serious problem on public transport in Japan. Frequently, trains are so crowded that a victim of chikan cannot move and is unable to identify who is molesting them. In this ...
Japanese woman sues employer after boss sends her pornographic images

Here's a peculiar case.
As reported in Bengo4, a woman is suing her employer in Japan for enabling sexual harassment.
Her company failed to act after it was alleged the woman's section chief sent her around 150 pornographic images. They were sent to her at the company address over three occasions between January and April 2020, with the third batch alone containing 100 photos and an adult toy. The woman in her thirties is seeking ¥4.4 million in damages in the lawsuit that began at Tokyo District Court on March 30.
The man in his fifties sent them to her by private post anonymously. She ...
Man arrested for fraud for hosting orgy in his hotel room

When does an orgy become a crime? If it's group sex among consenting adults, there should be no issue, right?
That's today's legal conundrum.
One man in Japan found himself arrested for hosting an orgy (in Japanese, ranko party). So what was his crime? Strangely enough, it was fraud.
He had booked a hotel room in Fukuoka for two people, but then ended up with eleven guests (eight men, three women) in the room in January.
He should have paid for eleven guests to stay, but only paid for two, hence his arrest. The man recruited participants in the orgy online.
There was the possibility ...
Prostitute arrested for tricking older customer out of small fortune

Be careful what that young lady offers you: it probably is too good to be true.
When the fiftysomething man from Ibaraki met the 28-year-old Chiharu Yamaguchi through a fuzoku (brothel) service three years ago, he thought all his Christmases had come at once. They started exchanging messages via LINE and he came to believe they were a couple.
She promised she would be with him till death. Thinking she would marry him, the man agreed to her requests for money that she said she needed to pay back her student loan or her mother's operations. She is alleged to have tricked the unnamed man out ...
When papakatsu goes wrong: Woman arrested over death of 82-year-old man in love hotel

/ Tadashi Anahori
A 24-year-old woman was arrested on January 22 after a 82-year-old man was found dead in a love hotel in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.
The man, Katsuzo Imano, was found in the room on the night of January 21, covered in blood and with box-cutter wounds on his chest. The money in his wallet was gone.
The suspect, Haruka Fujii, apparently called a former boyfriend immediately after the crime and then attempted to flee. Fujii, the ex-boyfriend, and his younger brother were apprehended at Nishi-Hachioji Station, just outside Tokyo, the following morning.
The image above shows Fujii shortly before she ...
Fleeing groper in Tokyo jumps train tracks, breaks hip

Another week, another chikan story.
As regular readers to this blog will know, groping on public transport is a serious problem in Japan, so much so that it has its own name (chikan) and tactics to deal with it -- primarily women-only carriages.
This doesn't seem to stop the perpetrators, though, but we also seem to spot an increasingly number of reports now about them being caught or having to escape in outlandish ways.
On the morning of Wednesday, December 15, an alleged male groper tried to evade justice by jumping from the tracks at Minami-Senju Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line ...
Man arrested for decensoring pixellated Japanese porn

We have by now learned to accept the innate contradiction that exists at the heart of Japanese porn: that the country has one of the largest, most varied industries in the world, and yet it also adheres to an interpretation of a century-plus-old obscenity law that says you cannot show genitalia. Hence JAV always has "mosaic" -- pixellation of the penis and vagina.
We have gotten used to this and no longer find it distracting, nor do we think it actually obscures the really important stuff (i.e., the beautiful face and body of the porn star).
Others, though, disagree and there exist ...
In late April, the internet went a bit crazy with this story of a 39-year-old Japanese man who was arrested and charged with defrauding 35 Japanese women in Osaka.
The duped women all thought they were his girlfriend. The man, Takashi Miyagawa, had told them different dates for his birthday so he could get as many gifts of meals, money, and clothing as possible. The fraud, though, seems only to have added up to ¥100,000 (about $1,000).
The handsome Miyagawa apparently met his victims through his work as a salesman for water purifiers and shower heads.
What's most intriguing here -- and ...
Young wife of Japanese Don Juan arrested: Allegations of porn past re-emerge
April 29, 2021
/ Tadashi Anahori
The much-younger Japanese wife of a wealthy self-proclaimed "Don Juan," who died under mysterious circumstances in 2018, has finally been arrested.
Saki Sudo (須藤早貴) (25) was detained this week by police over the death of her husband, Kosuke Nozaki, who was famed for his wealth and how he had used it to bed thousands of women.
Nozaki was 77 when he died at his sumptuous property in Wakayama, while Sudo was 22. They had reportedly met by chance at Haneda Airport and quickly married.
It is alleged that she killed him with a meth overdose to get his fortune. She was apparently more ...
It's a crowded market for minor celebrities and idols, especially if you come from the competitive ranks of AKB48 or its sister groups.
While a few former members have gone on to have major careers -- mostly the original generations of idols -- hundreds of others have faded from view or pursued careers like porn that they perhaps did not expect (but for which we are grateful).
That said, we think this is the first time we've heard of a former idol from the AKB-related groups turning to crime to make ends meet.
Juna Yamada (山田樹奈) was arrested on March 16 in Nagoya for fraud, ...
