Porn star Nanami Ogura returns as Nanami Kodama (after alleged stint as sex worker)
March 29, 2024
/ Tadashi Anahori
Porn star Nanami Ogura (小倉七海) may still be just 21 years old but has already amassed a prodigious output of releases since making her debut with S1 No. 1 Style in September 2021, including multiple bestselling AVs as well as two print photo books and several digital ones.
But that all seemed like a flash in the pan when she suddenly announced her retirement in October 2022, leading some to speculate it was due to the constraints placed on the JAV industry since the introduction of new porn legislation.
Thankfully, Ogura's retirement didn't last and she was soon back, under a ...

March 22, 2024
/ Tadashi Anahori
South Korea's K-XF Adult Festival returns in 2024, following the event's inaugural edition last December in Gwangmyeong.
In fact, the first was such a hit that K-XF is set to happen three times this year (April, August, and December). It looks like the Taiwan Red Expo has some serious competition!
The first and largest event of its kind in Korea, KXF is a self-professed and unashamed "festival obsessed with sex and fashion."
Held in Suwon on April 20 and 21, K-XF will feature various exhibitor booths for adult toys and other items, but the real highlights are the appearances of top ...
New porn parodies Neru Nagahama photo book
March 15, 2024
/ Tadashi Anahori
The Japanese porn industry is incredibly prolific and its output is fueled in part by parody releases: adult video productions that operate at a kind of meta level, inspired by a recent incident, social trend, or something from popular culture.
Sometimes, since parody occupies an ambiguous place under the rubric of Japanese law, this can get the producers into trouble. The recent AV release based on the DJ Soda groping incident was canceled prior to release, possibly due to the social media backlash or perhaps out of fears of legal repercussions (at a time when things are difficult for the ...
The wheels of the Japanese adult video juggernaut trundle on, demanding fresh material, new performers, and novel inspiration.
As frequently noted on these digital pages, JAV often turns to parody to sustain itself, resulting in a kind of meta industry that is highly topical and self-aware.
The DJ Soda groping incident at a music festival last summer, in which the star was touched by several male and female members of the audience, was a big scandal, though ultimately the Korean performer has overcome the negativity and cemented her fandom in Japan with a debut photo book and cover shoot ...
Ex-AKB48 idol Satomi Kaneko to make porn debut as Kiho Kanematsu
March 5, 2024
/ Tadashi Anahori
The former AKB48 idol Satomi Kaneko officially retired last year and we thought it was the last we would see of her.
How wrong we are. Today comes the happy news that Satomi Kaneko is to make her porn debut with the Muteki label -- which specializes in such industry crossover debuts -- and under the name Kiho Kanematsu (金松季歩).
It is common, often for contractual reasons, for idols to change their professional name when transition into porn, or even just when switching management agencies. Kaneko/Kanematsu announced her new professional name about a week ago, along with a new shoot ...
Japanese porn actresses campaign to reform new adult video law
February 13, 2024
/ Tadashi Anahori
The controversial adult video law, which requires productions to allow for one-month contract cooling-off periods and gives greater powers to performers to prevent releases even up to four months after completion of a shoot, was introduced in June 2022. These well-meaning measures are meant to curb coercion, which has been a rampant issue in porn, but many insiders say that the new law's restrictive conditions are too harsh and risk killing off the JAV industry.
Some of the most vocal opponents of the law have been porn performers themselves. Several prominent AV stars launched a petition in ...
Why are so many underground idols switching to porn?
January 16, 2024
/ Tadashi Anahori
We've written before about Aya Takanashi and her columns providing her insights on Japanese porn. As a former AV performer herself from 2016 to 2018, she is in the know about such things.
Her latest column for Spa! deals with the question of why so many underground idols (chika aidoru) are seemingly making the switch to porn?
It's true that porn retails sites like Fanza do seem chocker-block with chika idols of late. One example is Ichigo Nekomiya (pictured), who is meant to be a member of an Akihabara underground idol group and is making her debut (4HMN487) this month on the Honnaka ...
We usually report on FetiFes after it happens, but this year we wanted to offer a quick preview of the upcoming edition of Japan's largest fetish event.
Some of the highlights this year are a pole dancing show, booty-tastic performances by four ladies with lovely butts, a gymnastics show by three porn stars, and a shadow play act by male JAV star Riku Mukai.
The upcoming edition of Fetish Festival is the 24th and features booths and attractions over four floors of a building in east Tokyo.
We have noticed that the event's English marketing has been seriously ramped up, and we suspect ...
Japanese porn star Nanami Yokomiya dies, aged 21
December 13, 2023
/ Tadashi Anahori
The Japanese porn star Nanami Yokomiya (横宮七海) has died. She was just 21 years old (she would have turned 22 in February next year). Her death was announced on social media over the weekend by her friend, Moratorium Hamada.
She made her debut in the industry 2021 and continued to appear regularly in adult video productions. She was best known for Lolita-style (rori-kei) roles.
Fanza has 248 releases for her name as of writing, including several yet to come out later this month (presuming these are not canceled).
Hamada has shared messages that she and Yokomiya exchanged before, ...
Entrepreneur tells Japan to stop censoring porn
November 25, 2023
/ Tadashi Anahori
Famous (or possibly infamous) Japanese entrepreneur Takafumi Horie, aka Horiemon, has weighed in on the issue of adult video censorship.
Japanese adult video, despite being possibly the biggest porn industry in the world, is censored: no genitals are shown. This is a strange workaround to avoid prosecution under the obscenity law that was introduced to Japan in the Meiji era. The same policy is used in softcore porn and mainstream cinema, even if the nudity is not in a sex scene.
In a Japanese movie, the makers will simply shoot in a way to avoid genitals. If it's a foreign film, they will ...
