When desire overheats: Fire at dinosaur love hotel

Remember the awesome dinosaur-themed love hotel in Machida, Tokyo, we wrote about last autumn? It looks like it was seriously damaged by fire recently.
On the evening of June 9, flames were seen coming from the roof of the dino-inspired Hotel Artia, making it look even more like a scene from Jurassic Park than it did before. Social media was flooded with pics taken from cars traveling along the nearby expressway.
The cause was reportedly the wooden sauna located on the roof of the hotel.
No injuries or fatalities resulted from the fire. Moreover, no damage to the main structure of the ...

There's a reason that a lot of love hotel rooms have mirrors installed. Who doesn't want to watch themselves having sex?
Following on from our popular post last year about leaked sex selfies by amateur couples at Japanese love hotels, we present another roundup of nude sex selfies by couples taken in front of a mirror.
From man on woman to two men on one women, from bedrooms to hotel rooms, bathrooms, and more, from young lovers to older couples, from pre- to mid-coitus, the scenarios vary a bit, as does the quality (pictorial and physical). Sometimes the flash glare serves as an effective ...
Love hotel visits rejected as insufficient evidence of adultery

One of the strange things about the legal system in Japan is that though the rules on alimony and divorce settlements are far less strict than elsewhere -- especially if no children are involved (but joint custody also doesn't exist) -- there are some surprising things related to adultery. In short, if a spouse has an affair, the other spouse can sue their lover.
There are various conditions connected to this -- largely regarding if the spouse's adulterous lover knew of their marital status -- but it's common for the aggrieved party to seek financial damages. Since alimony per se doesn't ...

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on January 22 after a 82-year-old man was found dead in a love hotel in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.
The man, Katsuzo Imano, was found in the room on the night of January 21, covered in blood and with box-cutter wounds on his chest. The money in his wallet was gone.
The suspect, Haruka Fujii, apparently called a former boyfriend immediately after the crime and then attempted to flee. Fujii, the ex-boyfriend, and his younger brother were apprehended at Nishi-Hachioji Station, just outside Tokyo, the following morning.
The image above shows Fujii shortly before she ...
How clean are Japanese love hotels? Apparently not very

We all love going to a love hotel. You get to feel a bit naughty, stealing away for a tryst in the middle of the afternoon, or it's just a fun way to end a date or have a one-night-stand.
With its amenities and fun facilities, especially in terms of the bed, lighting, and bathing, a love hotel is the kind of place where things seem to start and end at the door: everything you do inside can be kept hidden from the world or the rest of your life.
Little wonder, then, that they are the places of choice for sex workers to meet clients or for couples having an affair to meet.
But you may never ...
Have you ever wondered which part of Japan has the most love hotels in terms of population density? These are the kinds of questions that keep us up at night.
We found some data, recently shared online by translator Clara Kreft, that is perhaps surprising: it's not the big cities full of horny young people that have the most love hotels (at least in terms of population levels).
It's actually Miyazaki Prefecture on the southern island of Kyushu. Incidentally, the same prefecture is one of the areas of the Japan with the highest rates of syphilis.
The data say there are 5,670 love hotels in ...
New Sweets Hotel in Shibuya is cookie-themed love hotel with chocolate baths

It takes a lot to stand out amid a crowd, and this love hotel just did it.
Shibuya's Dogenzaka is famously jam-packed with love hotels and they use garish colors and strange names to attract the attention of potential guests. That said, most are pretty tame in terms of the exterior design: with some exceptions (like the castle-themed Meguro Emperor, for instance, or some of the wacky places in Namba and Nipponbashi, Osaka), the hotels with really outlandish architecture and surreal rooms are mostly located in more rural or suburban regions.
As recently spotted and shared by Twitter user ...
The young Japanese female fans of vintage love hotels

Old love hotels in Japan have long enjoyed a special brand of fandom, either for their garish visuals or their increasingly haikyo-style "abandoned" status.
But a new sort of love hotel otaku is emerging. And they are young women who visit the establishments by themselves.
We previously mentioned the 20-year-old student whose YouTube channel was obsessed with introducing love hotels (along with net cafes and other such places). A few weeks ago, she showcased the cheapest love hotel in Tokyo.
An even more prolific profiler of love hotels is Yunana, who shares her fascinating trips to ...
Did you know, there's a dinosaur-themed love hotel in Machida?
If you're brave enough to visit the Hotel Artia Dinosaur in the Tokyo suburb, you will have to navigate some prehistoric creatures guarding the building. We wonder what Steven Spielberg thinks about all this.
Inside, you can enjoy everything from hookah to billiards, golf, and bouldering. Also sex, of course, which doesn't require any extra equipment -- just your body.
Hopefully fossils are not lurking in the beds to poke you in sensitive places. We also presume that there are no large dinosaur models in the actual guest rooms, ...
This may well be one of the cheapest love hotel in Japan -- and almost certainly you cheapest option in central Tokyo.
For just 500 yen -- roughly $5 -- you can stay at the Hotel Frontier.
It's located in Otsuka, which is on the Yamanote Line circular train line that defines the main central hubs of Tokyo. It's near Ikebukuro, which is a large commercial area with many love hotels.
Alright, let's be clear: you don't get much for your cash. The ¥500 buys you just 15 minutes (advertised as "super short time," available from 5 a.m. to midnight on a weekday), so you would have to get down ...
