40% of Japanese men in their twenties say they have never had girlfriend

A new survey by Recruit Marketing Partners has some shocking results.
41.6% of men in their twenties say they have never had a girlfriend. Only 26.% of unmarried people in their twenties, thirties or forties say they have a lover.
On the other hand, before we write off the Japanese male as a "sexless beast" -- 64.% said they "want a lover", so perhaps the issue is just one of working too long and not having the time to chase after a partner.
We've seen this kind of sex and relationship survey before and they always seem to have headline-grabbing results: 45% of Japanese women ...
23% of Japanese couples have sex on first date

... is the implication we can draw from data recently released by Hakuhodo as part of its Seikatsu Teiten project, an overview of survey data collected biennially on households on a range of questions.
The results show some trends and changes in the national psyche, though interestingly this one, responding to the statement "I don't mind having sex on the first date if our feelings match", has hardly changed.
It is now a solid 23.4%, up only 0.9% since the data started being collected in 1994. I guess attitudes towards sex on a first date are pretty established now.

That's the question that Time Out Tokyo asked its readers online back in August.
Unfortunately we have no idea how many people answered and what proportion were looking at its Japanese website or English one -- so this could in fact just be a handful of people's preferences.
Still, beggars can't be choosers and in the absence of another similar survey, we were amused to look at the results.
The biggest surprise is the main question about favorite position.
Doggy-style won, followed by cowgirl. While most people probably pretend in a survey to be more adventurous than they are and are ...
Survey reveals hairy truth behind Japanese women and their bushes

Japanese weekly tabloid Shukan Post has done a mammoth public service in conducting a superb survey of Japanese women to find out their grooming habits. As in, their bush hair grooming habits!
Shukan Post ran an online survey asking 1,000 women about the nether regions. The ladies were aged from 20 to 69, so we have a range of generations here. The average age was 41.9 years so the majority were in their early thirties or forties -- the rather lovely jukujo (MILF) category.
As many of our readers will be aware, although the ladies of the adult industry are quite well trimmed, most ...
Durex says “Japanese people are really unhappy with their sex lives”

Durex, the condom brand, have an interest in things sexual.
This doesn't just mean marketing their prophylactic, it also means studying global sex habits.
From Durex's Sexual Wellbeing Survey (2007/2008) and Face of Global Sex (2012), they gained some insights into international bedroom tendencies among heterosexual couples.
The Japan results intrigued us...
The main conclusion is that apparently people in Japan are very unhappy with their sex lives.
Japan was the only country where more people said they were dissatisfied with their sex lives than satisfied.

At just under 18 years old.
At least, the national average is 17.7 years old for when women in Japan get their first kiss, according to a new survey by LC Love Cosmetic.
In April this year the researchers asked 2,350 women from all over Japan and compiled the results into a handy map.
The kinkiest ladies, the ones most keen to get started on their smooching careers, hail from Tokyo (#1) at 16.3 years old, chilly Akita (#2) in the north at 16.6 years old, and then warm but typhoon-struck Nagasaki (#3) in the south at 16.7 years old.
In these prefectures, first and second ...
81% of Japanese women want an older lover, 47% of men want younger
December 24, 2013
/ Megumi
Over December 6 and December 9, Japanese Facebook dating app Match Alarm did an online survey of 2,944 male and female Japanese singles in their twenties and thirties.
It found some surprising results, most notably that 81.3% of Japanese single women would want an older man for a partner.
On the other hand, compounding the stereotype that all Japanese men want innocent maids and anime characters, the survey found that nearly 47% of men wanted a lover who was younger.
Things get more logical when broken down into age groups. Both men (51.2%) and women (over 90%!) prefer an older lover ...
45% of Japanese women “not interested in or despise sexual contact”

A long article in the Guardian has been published that purports to be sociological and serious, but is actually perpetuating the usual myths we read about our great country -- everyone is unhappy, everyone only works, no one has sex.
The sexes, especially in Japan's giant cities, are "spiralling away from each other". Lacking long-term shared goals, many are turning to what [a sex therapist] terms "Pot Noodle love" -- easy or instant gratification, in the form of casual sex, short-term trysts and the usual technological suspects: online porn, virtual-reality "girlfriends", anime cartoons. ...
40% of Japanese men are virgins: Condom maker reveals Japan’s sex habits
July 1, 2013
/ Tadashi Anahori
We've looked at surveys before -- from men who never date to the best breasts, habits and the most-viewed Wikipedia pages.
Now Sagami, one of Japan's leading condom makers, has released the results of a big nationwide survey, Nippon no Sex, it did in January this year.
It surveyed 14,100 men and women online (plus 29,315 in a pre-survey), aged from their twenties to their sixties, and from all of Japan's forty-seven prefectures.
The results are a little alarming in places, such as that 40.6% of Japanese males are still virgins (as opposed to just 25.5% of women), and that the average ...
