The artificial Otome Expo celebrates Orient Industry love dolls
As part of its celebration of thirty-five years leading the business, Orient Industry recently held an exhibition at Vanilla Gallery.
The oddly titled The artificial Otome Expo [sic] (otome means “maiden” or “virgin”) featured a range of luxury silicone love dolls “Dutch wives” on display, including two ladies very seductively holding a large phallic object.
With Japan in recession, in general people aren’t spending much money. Retail has moved more and more towards cheaper fashion, cheaper food, cheaper drinks. So it’s hard to persuade people to put some several thousands dollars on a high-grade companion like an Orient Love Doll.
This kind of three-week event was a great opportunity for the curious to go see what they are missing. Of course, Orient Industry also has a small showroom in Ueno but a gallery is even easier to enter for the uninitiated.
There was also a “posing seminar” where Orient Industry staff taught visitors how best to pose the dolls.
